Player of the Month – Juan Pablo ‘Pibe’ Pereira Sastre
In a month where in truth there were not many stand-outs, we’re giving this award to a player who has been consistent throughout the season and has been a key player in helping Mons fight for the European spots. Pibe scored four times in January as Mons won three and lost once; the striker has scored in more than half of his games this season – after coming third in these awards last month the Argentinian striker wins the award this time out. His team-mate and compatriot Leonardo Carboni comes a close second, while Raul Segura of Phoenix finishes third.
Manager of the Month – Luis Manuel Blanco
Another tricky one here, with both Mons and Europa winning three games this month –neither side won in matchday 16 and even though only Mons game fell in January, we feel Blanco edges his Europa counterpart to the award this time out. Impressive wins vs Phoenix and St Josephs (albeit the latter came via a fortunate winner), and a hammering of Glacis means that Mons are still in with a very good shout of qualifying for a maiden European competition. New Lincoln manager Victor Afonso recovered from a loss to St Joseph’s to win his following two games in the month, but comes a distant third this month.
