After an October which saw many twists and turns in the Gibraltar Premier Division, FG announces their player and manager of the month awards for the month of October.

Player of the month – Tjay de Barr (Europa)
This one was very tough, and St Joseph’s Juanfri can feel a bit unlucky that he did not win this award, but for overall performance we have given this award to Europa’s 18-year old who has really stepped into the limelight this month with his performances on the pitch.
As well as scoring goals, De Barr has also become a pivotal part of the Europa play and is clearly benefitting from his move to last season’s runners-up, as well as the increased HGP rules.
Learning from fellow Gib international Liam Walker can only help the teenager going forward, while we wouldn’t be surprised to see him start vs Armenia or Macedonia in the next international break, and at the moment the only way is up for De Barr.
Manager of the Month – Juan Maria Sanchez (Gibraltar Phoenix)
Aside from losing narrowly to Europa in a game rearranged and bought forward, Phoenix won every other game in October they played in, and find themselves 5th, just six points off the top. It is early days for sure, but under Juan Maria Sanchez Phoenix are proving a tough nut to crack.
The only criticism of Phoenix we may have is that they seem to rely on Labra a little too much, and if he isn’t firing on all cylinders then Phoenix aren’t quite as good up front, but they have built a solid base of a team, and with rumours of the squad being added to in January, they could be a good shout to enter the top half this year, as well as potentially a good cup run under Sanchez.
Juanjo Gallardo for Europa was potentially in contention for this award, having also only lost one game this month, but comparing the two teams we felt Phoenix’s achievement was more worthy of rewarding their manager.
