This Saturday a tournament which goes by the name of the Maurice Coelho Cup gets underway, it’s in memory of the former FC Boca Juniors player who sadly took his own life last year.
The Club have once again partnered up with local charities GibSams and Clubhouse Gibraltar to raise money and, more importantly, awareness about mental health issues and suicide prevention. The players registration fees to take part with said money being donated to the charities. There is also a crowdfunding page – https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mauricecoelhocup. On the day, there will also have hot food being sold and a bake sale, proceeds of which will also go towards the charities.
Michael Podesta commented, “We have had a great response yet again this year with a total of 16 teams registering. The kind people of Gibraltar have been donating generously and we hope this is a joyous occasion where we can celebrate Maurice and also raise awareness.”
