After an excellent display against Europa in the Pepe Reyes Cup last Sunday – we take a look at what is next for Gibraltar’s most promising goalkeeper.
Europa walked away with the first piece of silverware of the season as they defeat Lincoln 4-2 on penalties but it was young 17-year old goalkeeper Jaylan Hankins which took all the plaudits. His reaction save from Liam Walker’s close range shot in the opening ten minutes followed by his double save later in the game were superb.
So the big question after the Cup was, what is next for Jaylan? The answer.. a loan move. After Lolo’s impressive first season as Lincoln’s number one, he will be expected to return after being rested last weekend with former Lynx goalkeeper Lucio Hernando expected to be his number two. There’s the new Intermediate League starting soon but if Hankins wants to continue improving than a possible loan move to Lynx or Lions should be something which Lincoln look at, especially if they don’t want to lose him like they have with Ethan Britto & Tjay De Barr.
Trying to work his way into the Nations League may be a bit early for him but with Matt Cafer & the talks of Tom King linking up with the national team in the future, Hankins can’t afford to be wasting anymore time on the bench if he wants to be in Gibraltar’s plans for the future.
