Theo Vonk steps down from role as Glacis Head Coach

Glacis Head Coach Theo Vonk has stepped down from his roles as Head Coach and Technical Director due to personal reasons, and has been replaced by former St Joseph’s manager Alfonso Cortijo Cabrera.

Vonk, who started the role in the summer, requested to be released for personal reasons, which the club understandably don’t divulge further into, and the club agreed to his release, quickly acting to ensure they have a manager in place for their season opener vs Lincoln on Thursday.

Cortijo Cabrera, who had a spell in charge of Saints in the 15/16 season, has since enjoyed spells working in China, and most recently Spain with then Primera Division club Malaga CF.

There is currently no word as to whether Vonk’s coaching staff will stay, but while the news will be a blow to the side ahead of the new season, they have made sure to minimise the disruption by bringing in a replacement just 24 hours after Vonk’s departure.
