Yahaya: “The league is not over”

After getting the better of their rivals Lincoln on Tuesday, we caught up with Europa powerhouse Mustapha Yahaya to get his views on the Gibtelecom Rock Cup win, and more.

Europa held on to their 3-1 lead at half-time to knock out Imps from the Gibtelecom Rock Cup, Yahaya reflected on the game “We played well as a team and killing the game off in the first half relaxed us. We were in control with and without the ball which game them [Lincoln] very few chances, i think their only shot on target came from a set piece.”

The final will now be played between Mons Calpe and Europa, we asked Yahaya if they will be focusing more on the Rock Cup, “We knows Mons Calpe will play a rough game and we [Europa] are up for it. The league isn’t over so we’re taking everything game by game and focusing on Saturday against Lincoln.”

This Saturday, Europa take on Lincoln again, this time with three important points at stake. Eight points are between them with seven games remaining, On whether the holders can retain the league – Yahaya replied, “We can close the gap to five points behind Lincoln who are top of the league and will be hoping to put them under pressure on Saturday. We will try out best to win and it will be very interesting to see who is the better team on the day. Lincoln will be looking to come out stronger while we need to correct our mistakes if we want to win – the league is not over.”
