Gibraltar vs Russia: Preview

The final game of the International triple header sees Gibraltar take on Russia in a UEFA U21 Euro qualifier this evening at 20:00.

After a tough defeat to Serbia last Friday, the U21 squad will be hoping for improvements against Russia tonight and the same style crowd which saw Gibraltar beat Latvia on Sunday evening would be a great way to start. Depending on the fitness of Louie Annesley, many would expect him to start after his terrific display against Latvia – partnered by Erin Barnett while Ethan Jolley would move to right-back or centre-defensive midfield.

Last Thursday’s earlier kick-off saw Russia snatch a late winner against Macedonia to win 4-3 thanks to Spartak Moscow’s winger Zelimkhan Bakayev. Going off from November 2017’s scoreline, Gibraltar have possible chance of getting something as it was only two goals in the final twenty minutes from Ayaz Guilev & Fyodor Chalov helped Russia win 3-0.

Possible lineup: Banda; Serra, Barnett, Annesley, Britto; Jolley, Torrilla, Pishu; Ballantine, Negrette, Coombes.
