We caught up with Lincoln Red Imps & Gibraltar U16 youngster Craig Galliano as he reflects on the recent UEFA Development Tournament.
We asked Craig how it felt captaining Gibraltar at U16 level, “Firstly I was not chosen as Captain when the squad was announced however due to the fact that the captains selected were on the bench for the game vs Andorra I was chosen by the coach to lead the team out which was a proud moment for me. I was confident and it helped being one of the 3 captains in my team (Lincoln u16) therefore I know how it feels and how to motivate my team in both complicated and in good matches. Overall this has been a proud moment for me to be captain at an international level.”
Gibraltar came away from the UEFA Development Tournament with one win and two losses. Craig reflected on how it went. “This is my first experience playing at international football. The tournament consisted of 4 countries, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Malta and Gibraltar. Overall our performances increased each game and in the last game vs Andorra we got the result we were hoping to get. I feel it was a good tournament and I gained a lot of experience.”
The final game of the Tournament Gibraltar drew 1-1 against Andorra with Craig equalising from the penalty spot, we asked how it felt, “When I saw the ball in the back of the net, I felt an adrenaline rush and I went straight to the bench to celebrate the goal with all the players/staff. I felt really proud of myself as it was my first international goal and we held on to win the game on penalties.”
What does the future hold for Craig? He replied, “My goals is to continue improving and be able to represent my country at the highest level of competition and to play for Lincoln at senior level and represent my country in the Euros in October 2018 in Bosnia & Herzegovina”
