Wancho: “I think it was very inconsistent at the beginning of the season”

We caught up with St Joseph’s midfielder Juan Carlos ‘Wancho’ Villalba as he gave us his thoughts on how the season has panned out so far and what he hopes to achieve at the end of the season.

After 9 games, Saints find themselves sitting third – twelve points behind Lincoln. Wancho gave us his views on how the season has panned out so far, “Well, I think it was very inconsistent at the beginning of the season but we are working hard and very close to second place.”

Villalba is currently playing in his second year in Gibraltar and has previously played in Algeciras & Los Barrios. We asked him the difference between playing in Gibraltar & Spain, “The difference physically of the matches are similar while technically the Premier Division is evolving very quick.”

With Lincoln looking unlikely to slow down this season, we asked if Saints ambitions have changed from winning the league to just qualifying for Europe – Wancho disagreed, “There is still a lot left of the league as long as it is mathematically possible of winning it then we shall continue to fight. If it is impossible, then work towards finishing second and winning the Gibtelecom Rock Cup.”
