Lincoln beat Europa 3-1 on penalties to win the Pepe Reyes Cup but how did both sets of players fare this evening?
Tjay De Barr scored the winning penalty as goalkeeping heroics from Imps keeper Lolo Soler saved three of Europa’s four penalties.
After the game, we gave our assessment of each player who featured..
Javi Munoz – 6
Didn’t have much to do all game but should have done better for both of Lincoln’s goals.
Jesus Toscano – 7
Good game, was always looking to go forward and did well defensively.
Alberto Merino – 6
Caught out a few times in the first half, he’ll be hoping for a better performance this season after playing so well in the last campaign.
Martin Belfortti – 7
Had a good game, kept Lee quiet and cleared up the defensive mistakes made by his team mate.
Antonio Garcia – 6
Was good going forward but caught out too many times while defending.
Guillermo Roldan – 7
Ran his socks off from start to finish, caused Alain Pons problems all game but had his penalty saved in the shoot-out.
Alex Quillo – 5
Had a good first half but struggled in the second half with the defensive side of things and ended up getting sent off, ultimately costing his side.
Jorge Pina – 7
Played well in centre-midfield, could strike up a good partnership with Moya when he returns.
Nito Gonzalez – 8
Nito had more of a free roaming position, played very well and setup Kike for his first goal.
Sykes Garro – 7
Had a good game on the wing, should have scored twice which Europa would later go on to rue.
Kike – 9
Picked up from where he left off, scored two, nearly got a third at the death but would then miss his penalty in the shoot-out.
Substitute: Mikey Yome – 6
Replaced Sykes, did well when was running at defenders but didn’t receive the ball enough.
Substitute: Enrique Carreno – 5
The Spanish striker had to play more of a centre midfield role following Quillo’s sending off, struggled from the start.
Substitute: Jose Manuel Rodriguez – 5
Came on after Kike’s goal in ET to shut Lincoln out but didn’t work.
Lolo Soler – 8
The Lincoln Hero following his three consecutive penalty saves, a good replacement for Raul Navas.
Jean Carlos Garcia – 7
Struggled in the first half but was great after that, was very dangerous with his crosses.
Roy Chipolina – 5
Couldn’t handle Kike all game and was lucky Oli was on hand to prevent Kike from scoring a winner in the second half.
Alvaro ‘Oli’ Paris – 7
Found it difficult with Kike in the first half but improved as the game went off and kept him relatively quiet.
Alain Pons – 5
Not the greatest of games for the youngster, couldn’t handle Roldan & Toscano then was later subbed due to injury.
Anthony Hernandez – 8
Quiet on the wing but was a threat when he moved more central, it was his shot that led to Falu’s equaliser to send the game into extra-time.
Jason Pusey – 7
Had a good game in centre-midfield, didn’t deserve to be subbed but was already on a yellow in the second half.
Sebastian Nayar – 5
Looked lost for about 75 minutes or so but got better as the pace of the game dropped.
Diego Macarro – 6
Another player who was quiet on the wing but played better when moved more central.
Lee Casciaro – 7
Overworked as the Gibraltarian striker had to do his job upfront and drop deep to help in midfield.
Falu Vincueria – 9
Quiet but scored twice from two chances, no real pace about him but his hold up play was superb.
Substitute: Antonio Calderon – 8
The game changer, Lincoln looked a much better side when he came on and got an assist for Falu’s second of the game.
Substitute: Ethan Britto – 7
Had a good game when he came on and made some vital blocks to prevent Europa from attacking.
Substitute: Tjay De Barr – 6
Struggled with the physicality of the game but the 17 year old would later go on to score the winning penalty.
