FC Olympique have completed the signing of striker Robert Montovio from Gibraltar United, their fifth signing so far.
A major reshuffle from Olympique this summer has seen them turn a few heads as we build-up to the start of the new season next month. After reportedly being taken over, the club has made some drastic changes and looks a force to be reckoned with.
The appointment of former Angels boss Lewis Fraser and with him a mix of youth & Premier experience. Steven Soussi, Jovan Ocana, Dion Danino, Ray Martin Forrester and most notably Robert Montovio.
Montovio decided to leave Gibraltar United a few days ago and posted this emotional message to his former club & team-mates on social media:
“I started my football career at the age of 6 wearing the green and black colours of college Cosmo’s. After my first year as a footballer Manchester,62 came to sign me.
I had a spell of nearly 20 years in which I won Rock Cup, League Cup and Pepe Reyes Cup along the way. Although my exit was not the way I would have liked it to be my love for them was always strong.
I then had spells at Glacis, College Europa (which I played Europa League) and Europa Point before joining the club that conquered my heart… Gibraltar united…no victory tasted as special as it did wearing the Gib Utd shirt, no goal I have ever scored tasted sweeter than the ones I have scored for Gibraltar United.. but the most important of all was what we all achieved as a big family which was remain in first division with the help of every single individual working for the club. That has been the biggest goal in my career with a team 100% of locals. I even had the honour to Captain the best team/family I have ever played for.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my teammates which have helped me achieve my goals in these 2 brilliant years. In which we will be always part of the history of this club for helping them achieve their goals as a football club.
I would also like to thank president Paul Collado for always being there for me in my toughest days (you are more than a president or friend to me) I hope this special bond lasts forever… I will always be grateful to football to allowing me to meet people like him.. thank you Paul
Also a special mention to
Manolo Nuñez Sanchez (more than a manager to me)
Javi Sanchez and a really good person Pedro Hidalgo
Thank you Gibraltar United always in my heart”
