Europa v Lincoln: Gibtelecom Rock Cup preview

Lincoln Red Imps will be looking for revenge today when they take on Europa in the Gibtelecom Rock Cup final with the Imps desperately needing a trophy.

For the first time in nearly 15 or so years, Lincoln Red Imps could be ending a season in Gibraltar with no trophy to their name. Their opponents today have beat them in the final of the Pepe Reyes Cup and the Premier Division, now a loss in the Rock Cup may put the future of Imps manager Julio Ribas into doubt. Europa may be full of confidence after their league triumph but their rivals have comfortably beat them in their last two games so it will be difficult to tell who is favourite to win.

We’ve said it before and we will say it again, if Europa want to get any result tomorrow then Mustapha Yahaya needs to start. The midfield dynamo has had a very good season and will relieve some of the pressure which Ivan Moya will be under as he tries to keep Diegutio & Antonio Calderon as quiet as possible. Liam Walker, Guillermo Roldan & Kike are all expected to start for Europa while Lincoln will be sweating over the fitness of George Cabrera who hasn’t played since picking up an injury in their semi-final win over St Joseph’s. Europa will be hoping to complete the treble today and pile more misery onto Lincoln.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7pm at the Victoria Stadium, with the Main Stand already sold out. The East Stand will open from 6pm and no ticket is required to enter that stand for the game. For more info, check out @GibraltarFA on Twitter.

Despite having won the league, Europa go into tonight’s game as 7/4 underdogs against a Lincoln side currently evens to win in 90 minutes. Europa have won more games than any other team this season after going in at half time either drawing or losing (seven times, compared to six for Lincoln and Glacis in the league), and Draw/Europa in the half-time/full time market is currently 13/2 and could prove to be good value.
