Joseph Chipolina scored twice to top off a fantastic second half performance from the Imps as they came from behind to beat rivals Europa 4-1.
Europa broke the deadlock in the ninth minute as a defensive mistake from Roy Chipolina gifted the ball to Kike, his pass to Liam Walker was played back to the Spanish striker who rolled the ball into an empty net. Shortly after Lincoln keeper Raul Navas produced a fantastic double save to keep out Ayew & Roldan’s efforts on goal.
Just before half-time Lincoln found themselves in a 3v1 situation as Lee Casciaro skipped past Merino and ran on goal, his cross looked destined to found Calderon at the back post but Belfortti was on hand to block and clear the ball from danger. Few minutes later referee Tim Reoch blew for half-time with Europa leading 1-0.
The Imps came out in the second half all guns blazing, Roy Chipolina drilled in a low cross which found Calderon whose shot went just over the bar. Europa came battling back, Kike skipped past Roy and laid the ball off to Alex Quillo who fired his effort just wide from outside the box.
Just after the hour mark and Lincoln equalised as Joseph Chipolina got on the end of a Calderon free-kick to steer the ball past Camara. Eight minutes later and Lincoln found themselves 2-1 up, a cross from Jean Carlos Garcia found the unmarked George Cabrera at the back post who nodded the ball into an empty net.
The Europa players heads dropped which made it too easy for Lincoln going forward as they made it 3-1 in the 80th minute, Anthony Bardon received the ball from ‘Dieguito’ and rifled the ball into the top corner from a tight angle. Lincoln completed the rout in the 89th minute, Calderon’s cross found Joseph Chipolina who had the faintest of touches to put the ball past Camara to make it 4-1.
This win sees Lincoln rise into first and move one point clear with five games remaining.
