Samuel Nunez earns draw for Boca

A stunning strike from Samuel Nunez secured a 1-1 draw for Boca against Magpies in the Chestertons Cup.

After a slow start to the game, Magpies broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. Joseph Idali delivered a corner which found Chris Mousdell at the back post who headed the ball past Hermida. Minutes later Magpies appealed for a penalty as Idali’s close range shot hit James Ellul but the referee waved play on.

Five minutes after replacing the injured Matthew Grech and Samuel Nunez equalised for Boca. His 25-30 yard thunderbolt flew into the top corner giving Magpies keeper Manuel Garcia no chance. Referee blew for half-time with the scores locked at 1-1.

Magpies got off to a fast start in the second half, a mix-up between Ellul & Sabastro saw Luke Busumbru go through on goal but the striker dragged his shot wide. Midway through the half Boca had two great chances to take the lead but Kivan Robba & Emilio Sansolini’s efforts on goal were excellently saved by Garcia.

In injury time Boca nearly found themselves a winner when Nunez’s corner found the unmarked Sansolini at the back post but the midfielder volleyed his effort over the bar. Micheal Gordillo blew the final whistle with the game ending in a draw for the third time this season.

Cannons have a great opportunity to move top of Group B when they take on Boca this Sunday.
