Following Gib Phoenix’s triumph in the Gibtelecom Rock Cup last Saturday, we caught up with their star striker Luisma Casas Dominguez as he reflected on the game and their Second Division hopes.
Second half goals from Chico Rubio and German Cortes Narvaez secured the Second Division side a shock win which saw them progress into the semi-final of the Gibtelecom Rock Cup, Luisma reflected on how the team played. “We played very well, we were situated on the pitch very well, moving around and just tried to make the most of the opportunities given. From my personal point of view, the team was spectacular.”
Europa, St Joseph’s and current holders Lincoln Red Imps will join Phoenix in the semi-final draw. We asked him which team he would want to play in the next round, “I do not mind which team we face next as long as we do our job and the play the way we can then you never know what could happen in ninety minutes of football. ”
Casas has previous experience in playing for Levante, Real Betis and most recently Marbella FC. Casas spoke highly of the football in Gibraltar compared to that in Spain. “There’s a good level in Gibraltar. Every year it’s increasing with the players and coaching getting better.”
Phoenix currently sit top of the Second Division, three points clear of Magpies in second with three games remaining. With only two wins needed, Casas was confident that his side will reach their objective. “There’s a good feeling around the squad that we can complete our goal. Our main objective is nearly there and we will fight very hard in the these next three games to make sure we become champions.”
