Alvaro Navarro scored twice to help Manchester 62 beat fellow strugglers Gibraltar United 3-0 this evening.
Gibraltar United started the better side and had the ball in the back of the net early on but Robert Montovio’s goal was ruled out for offside. With neither team able to break each other down, the game looked destined to go in 0-0 at half-time but Manchester 62 broke the deadlock just before the break. A cross was whipped in which found Navarro who nodded the ball past Kyle Goldwin. The game restarted and referee Jason Barcelo blew for half-time with the Red Devils leading 1-0.
Just before the hour mark Manchester 62 doubled their lead. Goldwin failed to deal with Aaron Duran’s cross, the ball fell to Navarro who slotted the ball into an empty net. Gib Utd went all out attack as they looked to get back in the game, leaving them open to a counter-attack and that was exactly what happened. Duran whipped in a low cross which found French forward Marc Alain Tra whose shot was excellently blocked by Jesse Victory.
Manchester 62 put the game to bed in the 86th minute, Phillip Gillingwater Pederson laid the ball off to Aaron Payas on the edge of the box who curled his effort into the bottom corner. The Red Devils saw out the last few minutes and secured themselves an important win which moves them out of the relegation zone.
