Raul Procopio came back to haunt his former club as St Joseph’s held Lincoln Red Imps to a 2-2 draw.
From kick-off Procopio’s tactics were clear, constant pressure whenever Lincoln had the ball which prevented them from creating many opportunities. First chance of the game went St Joseph’s way, Jaime Contreras tried to pick out Jose Luis Romero with a through ball but Ryan Casciaro got in the way, his clearance nearly ended up in his own net but fortunately for him & Lincoln it hit the crossbar.
17 minutes in and Lincoln broke the deadlock, Kyle Casciaro delivered a free-kick which Jose Felix Garcia parried into the path of Joseph Chipolina who fired the ball in from close. Lincoln kept pressing and nearly doubled their lead shortly after when all three of the Casciaro brothers combined well and Lee’s shot was saved by Garcia.
St Joseph’s equalised in the 30th minute, Esteban Montes’ long range free-kick hit the crossbar and the rebound was put it by John Paul Duarte. Referee blew for half-time with the scores level at 1-1.
Four minutes into the second half and St Joseph’s took the lead as Jose Luis Romero got on the end of a perfect cross from Manuel Jesus Cantizano to nod the ball past Raul Navas. Their lead lasted only seven minutes as Lincoln equalised, Saints failed to clear their lines and Anthony Bardon picked up a loose ball in the box and fired it past Garcia.
With fifteen minutes left Lincoln went all out attack, Joseph Chipolina drilled in a low cross which found Roy Chipolina whose shot was saved by Garcia. In added time Saints nearly nicked a goal, Borja Gomez Torres skipped past Jean Carlos Garcia and squared the ball to Salvador Manuel ‘Boro’ Delgado whose shot was excellently blocked by Bernardo Lopes,
Saints held on for the few remaining minutes and secured a well deserved point, The title race is now wide open as Lincoln stay top on goal difference but level on points with Europa.
