Europa progress at Glacis United’s expense

Europa scored three second-half goals to secure a 3-1 second-round Gibtelecom Rock Cup victory over Glacis United. The rainy condition made it very difficult for Glacis or Europa to create any chances, the Greens had more possession but were wasteful in the final third of the pitch. A very defensive Glacis looked good on the counter-attack with Salvador Carrasco proving to be too much for makeshift centre-back Javier Iglesias but the duo of Alberto Merino & Mustapha Yahaya kept them at bay.

Europa took the lead ten minutes into the second half as substitute Martin Belfortti, who had only been on the pitch for about two minutes, picked up a loose ball in the box and slotted it past Borja Gonzalez. Three minutes later Europa doubled their lead as Kike latched onto a through ball from Walker, rounded the keeper and fired the ball into an empty net.

Glacis pulled a goal back eight minutes later as Ander Sanchez beat the offside trap, ran through on goal and slotted the ball past Jose Manuel Camara. As Glacis were pushing for equaliser, Europa made it 3-1 near the end. Antonio Garcia played Kike through on goal, the striker squared the ball to Guillermo Roldan who rolled it into an empty net.

Yaro Borg blew the final whistle a few minutes later and Europa walked away the winners and join Lynx, St Joseph’s, Manchester 62 and Lincoln Red Imps in the next round of the Gibtelecom Rock Cup.
