Gibraltar FA appoint Desi Curry as technical director

The Gibraltar FA have appointed Desi Curry as their new technical director on a four-year contract. 

Gibraltar FA also issued the following statement: 

“The Gibraltar FA is delighted to announce the appointment of Desi Curry as the Association’s new Technical Director.

There were over 80 applications received for this new position, the vast majority of them from professionals based abroad, and the selection panel, which made the final decision, consisted of the GFA General Secretary and one of FIFA’s Technical Consultants, Mr. Hansruedi Hasler, himself the former Technical Director of Switzerland.

Desi Curry brings a wealth of experience to the position. A Graduate in Education from Queens University in Belfast he spent 18 years as a Senior Teacher and Head of Physical Education at Laurelhill Community College before taking on the role of Technical Director at the Irish Football Association (Northern Ireland). At the IFA he was ultimately responsible for the management of all their footballing departments from Grassroots to Women’s Football, Youth Football, Coach Education, Player Analysis and Disability Football.

As a Coach of Northern Ireland’s Youth Teams, since 2007, he has had prominent Northern Ireland Internationals under his guidance including the likes of Johnny Evans (currently at West Brom), Kyle Lafferty (Birmingham City) and Stephen Davies (Southampton).

Since 2013 Desi has been working for FIFA in a number of departments such as Coach Education and as an Instructor on Pro License Courses around the world. He has been involved in delivering courses and workshops around the world, on behalf of FIFA on the role of the Technical Director and its importance within National Football Associations and in the creation of FIFA’s Technical Director Handbook. He was also a member of FIFA’s Technical Study Group for the 2016 Under 17 World Cup in Chile as well as currently being a Technical Observer at UEFA Youth Tournaments.

Desi Curry, who holds a UEFA PRO License, will begin his role as the Gibraltar FA’s Technical Director, on a full time basis with immediate effect.”
