For the first time since being accepted into FIFA earlier this year, Gibraltar has three referees added to FIFA’s refereeing list for 2017.
Jason Barcelo, Johan Ward and Zyl Sheriff have been included as referee, assistant referee and futsal referee respectively, with all three eligible to take charge of FIFA-affiliated matches from January 1st, 2017.
At a press conference held today at GFA HQ, the three referees said they were “delighted” with their appointment to an elite list of officials. a reward for the work put in by each official to get to the standard where world football’s governing body has granted them this recognition.
GFA Director of Refereeing, Adrian Bacarisa, spoke highly of the officials, while also confirming that much like the successful recent exchange with the Maltese FA, plans are in the pipeline for similar referee exchanges with their Andorran and Sammarinese counterparts, potentially this season.
