FG caught up with Charlie Mitchell as the defender reflected on Lynx’s first win of the season as they defeated Europa Point 2-1 on Monday night.
A late goal from Raul Segura sealed Lynx a vital three points, Mitchell gave his view on how the team played. “I think we played well as a team, stayed compact and counter attacked when we could. It wasn’t easy but we just had to keep the ball moving and when we saw the chance to go forward, we had to make the most of it.”
Lynx still remain bottom but only one point separates them from Gibraltar United in sixth, we asked how big of a boost Monday’s win was. “It was a massive boost and more importantly a relieve to finally grab our first 3 points because it’s been a very frustrating start for us but you just got to keep working hard, put in good performances and things will eventually go your way. We will take this win onto our next game on Saturday [against Manchester 62] and hopefully come out on top like we did against Europa Point.”
In the summer Lynx signed Charlie Mitchell from Combined Counties League Premier Division side North Greenford United. We got his views on how life has been in Gibraltar. “I joined Lynx from North Greenford United which was a massive step for myself as the football is more physical in Gibraltar and you have to move the ball a lot faster. I found it very difficult to settle in as any other 18 year old would, moving away from home into the unknown isn’t the easiest thing to do you know but Lynx have helped me massively by having faith in me and giving me the game time I need to build my confidence up.“
Lastly, we asked Mitchell if Lynx have enough to stay up this season. “Of course I do, listen it’s early days in the season and we still have plenty of games to go. We put a lot of time and effort in training to correct our mistakes and become better as team. I know we are not in the best position right now however we are gelling as a team a lot more now but we can only keep working hard and sticking by each other to get the results we need and I believe we can do that.“
