Jose Luis Romero’s first-half strike handed St Joseph’s a 1-0 win over Gibraltar United.
Less than ten minutes into the first half and Gibraltar United went down to 10 men, Saints winger Borja Gomez Torres got in behind the defence and ran through on goal, defender Brad Power pulled the winger back and prevented a goal scoring opportunity which left referee Herbert Warwick with no option but to send Brad Power off.
Saints started to take control of the game and in the 22nd minute broke the deadlock, Jose Luis Romero latched onto a through ball from Steven Montes and lobbed the on-rushing Kyle Goldwin. Just before half-time Gibraltar United had a chance to equalise but Aymen Mouelhi headed the ball over from a free-kick.
Shortly after Herbert Warwick blew for half-time with St Joseph’s leading 1-0. Gibraltar United made a double change during the break with Kaylan Rumbo & James Currer replacing Andrew Hernandez and Jason Pusey as they searched for an equaliser.
St Joseph’s nearly made it 2-0 in the 75th minute but Kyle Goldwin pulled off a fantastic low save to keep out Borja Gomez Torres’ long range shot. Minutes later Goldwin was called into action again, tipping over Juan Carlos Villalba’s close range header.
St Joseph’s saw out the last few minutes and walked away with all three points which sees them move into fourth while Gibraltar United remain seventh.
