Nathan Santos’ late goal rescued a point for Lions and denied Lynx a first win of the season.
Lions started the stronger side and should have taken the lead midway through the first half, Sam Gilroy’s free-kick found Shea Breakspear who fired his shot wide from close. Lions kept pressing and shortly after had another chance to take the lead but Ian ‘Dude’ Rodriguez drilled his shot wide from range.
Just before half-time Lynx had their first real chance of the game, Lions failed to deal with a Segura corner and the ball fell to Robert Guiling who sliced his effort wide. Referee blew for half-time with the score at 0-0.
57 minutes in and Lynx were awarded a penalty as Yacine Abed Serandi was fouled in the box. Former Lions midfielder Raul Segura stepped up and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Lynx kept pushing forward, Charlie Mitchell’s shot was saved by Neale who was called into action minutes later to keep out Josh Cuby’s curling effort.
Five minutes remaining Lynx nearly made it 2-0 but Mohamed Badr’s effort on goal struck the post. Shortly after Lions equalised, Nathan Santos latched onto a through ball from Al Green, powered through the defence and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Lynx nearly regained the lead shortly after but Josh Cuby blasted his effort over the bar from close.
Referee blew the final whistle and the game ended 1-1. Lions remain seventh while Lynx sit bottom.
