Mattias Käit brace sees Estonia stroll to win

Mattias Käit scored twice as Estonia eased to a 4-0 victory against Gibraltar. 

Estonia got off to a quick start and nearly opened the scoring five minutes in but Sergei Zenjov’s effort on goal was cleared off the line by Roy Chipolina. The Estonians continued to pressure, Henri Anier capitalised on Jordan Perez’s poor clearance, the striker fires a shot towards goal which the keeper saves.

Minutes later Gibraltar had the ball in the back of the net, Jean Carlos Garcia’s shot was saved by Mihkel Aksalu, the rebound dropped to Joseph Chipolina who smashed the ball in but the goal was ruled out for offside. Gibraltar gradually got stronger as the game went on, causing the Estonia defence a few problems. 

Gibraltar held on til half-time and went into the break with the scores level. Two minutes into the second half and Estonia broke the deadlock, Fulham youngster Mattias Käit latched onto a through ball from Konstantin Vassiljev and slotted the ball past Perez.

Five minutes later Estonia doubled their lead, provider turned scorer as Vassiljev held off Anthony Bardon and chipped the on-rushing Perez. Gibraltar came battling back, Liam Walker picked up a loose ball and fired a shot towards goal which was deflected just inches wide of Aksalu’s goal. 

70 minutes in and Käit got his second of the game, volleying in Dmitri Kruglov’s corner. Walker had another chance shortly after, firing his long range free-kick over the bar. Estonia made it 4-0 in the 88th minute, Sergei Mošnikov shot from the edge of the box took a deflection off Roy Chipolina and found its way into the bottom corner.

A few minutes later referee Aleksei Eskov blew for full-time and Estonia walked away with all three points.
