Europa Point and Lions shared the spoils tonight in the Premier Division, with Sam Gilroy’s penalty cancelling out Chema Arana’s strike for Europa Point in a 1-1 draw.
The penalty, which saw Anderson Pinto sent off, means Europa Point are 7th after 3 games, while Lions are 9th, both registering their first point of the season.
Pre-game indicators suggested the game would be tight, and it would prove to be that way, especially in a first half where Lions started stronger but Europa Point grew into later in the half.
The newly-promoted side took the lead with 20 minutes to go. A corner, flicked on to the back post, was volleyed in by Arana to give his side the potential to win their first every Premier Division game.
10 minutes later, Lions were given a penalty which Gilroy fired past Sykes in the goal, despite Europa Point’s keeper diving the right way
Neither time found the chance to get a winner, but we suspect they’ll both be happy to be off the mark in what is looking like a competitive Premier Division.
