Magpies’ new manager David Wilson earned his first win in the Second Division with an impressive 4-0 victory over Olympique.
Magpies started the first half the stronger side and nearly took the lead in the opening two minutes, Daniel Pinto latched onto a through ball and fired a shot towards goal which Boyd Wood saved. Shortly after Magpies had another chance, Daniel Varona received the ball on the edge of the box and curled an effort towards goal which went inches wide.
Midway through the half Magpies had a goal disallowed, Kofi Halliday’s shot was blocked, the rebound dropped to Chris Mousdell who smashed the ball in from close but linesman lifted up his flag for offside. Just before half-time Daniel Varona found himself one-on-one with Wood, the attacker tried to chip the keeper but his attempt went horribly wrong.
Referee blew for half-time with the score at 0-0. Five minutes into the second half and Magpies broke the deadlock, Varona picked up the ball on the edge of the box, turned and curled his effort into the top corner. Few minutes later Magpies doubled their lead, Daniel Pinto skipped past his marker and drilled the ball into the bottom corner from just outside the box.
Four minutes later Magpies nearly made it 3-0, Varona delivered a corner which found Regan Mendes who rose above his marker and headed the ball onto the crossbar. 25 minutes to go and Magpies made it 3-0, Mendes’ overhead kick was cleared off the line by Christian Caetano, the rebound dropped to Regis Clement who smashed the ball past Wood from close.
With 10 minutes to go Magpies got their fourth of the night, Manuel Santiago curled his free-kick over the wall and into the top corner. Magpies saw out the remaining few minutes and walked away with all three points.
