After a busy transfer summer window, the start of the season is now only six days away. The annual Pepe Reyes Cup get underway this Sunday between league champions Lincoln Red Imps & runners-up Europa. Apart from the Home Grown Player rule which came into place a few weeks ago, we have also found out that the Second Division will consist of only nine teams.
Britannia were relegated from the Premier last season but pulled out of the league a few weeks later, Red Imps folded and GFA didn’t allow any affiliated team to take part this season so Europa Pegasus pulled out.
The Second Division opening day fixtures are as follows:
Monday 19th September (18:15 – College 1975 FC vs Cannons FC & 20:30 – Leo FC vs FC Olympique)
Tuesday 20th September (18:15 – FC Hound Dogs vs Gib Phoenix & 20:30 – Bruno’s Magpies vs Boca Juniors)
Due to an uneven number of teams, Angels have a bye on Gameweek 1.
The Premier Division gets more competitive every year and we expect the same this year with every team strengthening majorly. Liam Walker moved from Lincoln to Europa, St Joseph’s have made a few top signings and Mons Calpe will be hoping to finish high after signing big name players like Juan Pablo ‘Pibe’ Sastrie, Manuel Onega and many more.
The Premier Division opening day fixtures are as follows:
Wednesday 21st September (20:30 – Europa Point vs Glacis United)
Thursday 22nd September (20:30 – Manchester 62 vs Gibraltar United)
Friday 23rd September (20:30 – Mons Calpe vs St Joseph’s)
Saturday 24th September (18:15 – Europa vs Lions & 20:30 – Lincoln Red Imps vs Lynx)
