Lincoln Red Imps v Europa – Preview

It’s been nearly four months since the domestic season ended and after a busy transfer period, the Gibraltar league is back. For the second year running, League champions Lincoln Red Imps will face off against runners-up Europa in what is expected to be a thrilling Pepe Reyes Cup encounter.

It’s been a memorable summer for Lincoln, progressing to the second round of the Champions League for a second year running followed by beating Scottish Giants Celtic 1-0 in the first leg of the second round made Lincoln the most talked about club for the majority of the summer.
Lincoln are expected to name a full strength squad with only Anthony Bardon missing out as the midfielder hasn’t made a full recovery from the injury he sustained during Gibraltar’s defeat to Portugal. There will be a lot of pressure on Antonio Calderon’s shoulders as we believe he will be expected to replace Liam Walker who departed the club in the summer.
For Europa, they may not have beaten Celtic but they did create history when they defeated Pyunik and progressed to the second round of the Europa League where they would be eliminated by Swedish side AIK in the second round. It’s been a very busy summer for the Greens, with plenty of ins and outs both foreign and local.

Just like Lincoln, Europa are at full strength for tomorrow’s Cup game and will only be missing Mustapha Yahaya who is currently having VISA issues. We understand that over the summer that Europa have changed their system so we will have to see how their systems fits their new signing Liam Walker.

The Pepe Reyes Cup kicks off at 19:00 and you can find live coverage of the game on our Facebook & Twitter page.
