Kike: “I am feeling very proud and motivated to achieve more”

Following Europa’s 2-0 win over Lincoln Red Imps in the Pepe Reyes Cup last night, we caught up with the man of the moment Enrique “Kike” Gomez whose brace secured the Greens their first piece of silverware of the season.

Kike went into the game having to fill in the gap left by Pedro Carrion who departed in the summer. The 21-year old took a while to get into the game with Lincoln bossing possession but once he got going, there was no stopping him. His second half brace, both excellently taken goals, secured Europa the win. We got his reaction to the game, “Well, I’m feeling very proud and motivated to achieve more.”

Lincoln’s defeat yesterday was the first time they had lost in the Pepe Reyes Cup since 2013. We asked Kike how much of a boost yesterday’s win is going into their opening game on Saturday against Lions. “I’ll give everything that I’ve got in me to do well and help the team as much as I can.

Lastly, the former UD Pilas and Coria CF striker gave us his views on the difference between football in Spain and Gibraltar, “I haven’t noticed any difference whatsoever because football is the same regardless of where it’s played, although in this league it’s more intense.

The perfect start to life at Europa for Kike who at the age of 22 years old looks to be a real gem and if his partnership with Liam Walker continues to grow like it did yesterday, could this be Europa’s year?
