Mons Calpe sealed promotion to the Premier Division after a 2-1 playoff win over Britannia.
Three minutes in the first half and Britannia took the lead, Manuel Camacho delivered a corner which found Sam Gilroy who headed past Francisco Jimenez. Britannia nearly made it 2-0 shortly after, Camacho capitalised on a defensive error and ran through on goal, his shot was excellently saved by Jimenez.
Britannia started to take control of the game and had multiple chances to extend their lead but couldn’t find a way past an inspired Jimenez. Mons Calpe had a chance near the end, Ruben Fernandez’s long range shot was saved by Barnfather. Britannia went into the break leading 1-0.
Minutes into the second half and Mons Calpe equalised, Sergio ‘Poyo’ Vazquez volleyed his effort past Barnfather. A few minutes later Mons Calpe took the lead, Vazquez made a great run down the wing, cut inside and fired his shot into the top corner.
Britannia kept pushing and had a few chances from set pieces but nothing troubling Mons Calpe keeper Francisco Jimenez. Fifteen minutes of the game remaining and Mons Calpe were reduced to 10 men, captain Salvador Vallejo was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Britannia had one last chance before the final whistle to equalise, Manuel Camacho latched onto a through ball from Jose Luis Otero and fired a shot towards goal which Jimenez excellently saved. Mons Calpe held on for the last few minutes and secured an important win.
This result sees Mons Calpe promoted to the Premier Division while Britannia are relegated to the Second Division.
