Gibraltar United moved out of the relegation play-off zone after thrashing already relegated Angels 7-1.
Less than ten minutes into the first half and Gibraltar United nearly broke the deadlock, Pitu Anes picked out Robert Montovio with a sublime through ball but the striker fired his shot just wide from close range. Twenty minutes in and Gib Utd took the lead, Pitu Anes delievered a corner, Brad Power got in front of his marker and headed the ball into the top corner.
Three minutes later Gibraltar United nearly doubled their lead, Robert Montovio latched onto a through ball from Pitu Anes, ran through on goal and with only the keeper to beat, the striker dragged his shot wide. Angels went down to 10 men just before half-time as Omar Toure was sent off the pitch as the defender was playing with no shin-pads,
Gibraltar United took advantage of their numerical advantage and doubled their lead in the 43rd minute, Robert Montovio beat the offside trap, ran through on goal and slotted the ball past Filoho. Shortly after Toure made his way back onto the pitch with shin-pads and referee Andrew Parody blew for half-time with Gibraltar United leading 2-0.
Ten minutes into the second half and Gibraltar United made it 3-0, James Currer skipped past Jonathan Rojas, ran through on goal and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Seven minutes later it was 4-0, Robert Montovio whipped in a low cross which Kaylan Rumbo fired into an empty net.
Three minutes after coming on as a substitution Angels midfielder Edmund Hosken received a straight red card for clear the ball of the line with his hand. Robert Montovio stepped up and drilled his penalty past Filoho to make it 5-0. In the 79th minute Robert Montovio got his hat-trick, Evan Green squared the ball to Robert Montovio who fired the ball into the net off the post.
Two minutes later Angels pulled a goal back, Christian Mena’s long range strike flew into the top corner. Just before the final whistle Gibraltar United made it 7-1, Robert Montovio latched onto a through ball and lobbed the on-rushing Filoho, lovely finish from the Gibraltarian international who now has 15 goals this season. Angels were passing the ball at the back for the few remaining minutes until the referee blew the final whistle and Gibraltar United walked away with three crucial points.
This result sees Gibraltar United move out of the relegation play-off zone and into eighth, two points clear of Britannia who drop into ninth. If Britannia beat Lincoln Red Imps in their final game and Manchester 62 beat Gibraltar United then Gib Utd will move back into the play-off zone.
