Europa booked their place in the Rock Cup final as Guillermo Rodan’s second-half strike sealed a 1-0 win over Lions.
After an even fifteen minutes Europa started to take control of the game but couldn’t find a way past a very well organised Lions defence. 27 minutes in and Lions had a glorious chance to take the lead, Salvador Garcia latched onto a through ball and ran through on goal, the striker rifled a shot towards goal which struck the crossbar.
Europa came battling back, Adrian Pavon delivered a corner which was cleared as far as Javi Martinez who volleyed his long range effort just wide. Just before half-time Europa appealed for a penalty when Lions defender Albi Guerrero clearly handled in the area, referee Jason Barcelo waved play on. Shortly after the whistle blew for half-time with the scores level.
Just after the hour mark Europa broke the deadlock, Antonio Garcia delivered a corner which Pedro Carrion headed towards goal, keeper Adam Szpilczynski excellently saved but the rebound was followed in by substitute Guillermo Rodan. Five minutes later Lions nearly equalised, Albi Guerrero latched onto a Raul Segura through ball and blazed his effort over the bar from close range.
With a few minutes til the final whistle Lions had another glorious chance to equalise, Salvador Garcia capitalised on a Martin Belfortti error and ran through on goal, the striker drilled his shot past Javi Munoz and onto the post. Europa were able to hold on for the last few minutes and secure a hard-fought 1-0 win and book themselves a spot in the Rock Cup final.
