Christian Mena’s 89th minute strike secures Angels a shock 1-0 victory over St Joseph’s.
A lacklustre first half saw neither team create any chances until 30th minute when Angels had a glorious chance to take the lead when Fernando Lima de Aguiar skipped past three players and from four yards out skied his effort over the bar. St Joseph’s came battling back, Diego Merchan drifted past two Angels defenders and drilled a shot towards goal which was saved by Filoho.
Saints had another chance just before half-time but Filoho comfortably saved Jose Luis Verdejo’s header. Both teams went into the break on level terms.
St Joseph’s started the second half the stronger side and had multiple chances on goal but some great keeping from Welerson Ribeiro Dias kept the score at 0-0. Both sides made a series of changes to try and change the game but to no avail. After the hour mark Angels started to take control of the game, Christian Mena latched onto a through ball and rifled a shot towards goal which Jordan Perez saved.
The resulting corner was delievered and found Christian Mena who turned and drilled his effort into the bottom corner to give Angels a shock 1-0 lead. During the Angels celebrations, St Joseph’s midfielder Javier Lopez was sent off for a second bookable offence leaving his team down to ten men.
Angels were able to hold on and seal a massive three points which sees them remain bottom of the division, ten points behind GIbraltar United & Glacis United while St Joseph’s remain third, three points ahead of Lynx.
