Goals from Evan Coleing, Cesar Rosa & Jayce Consigliero secured Red Imps a 3-1 victory over FC Olympique which sees them progress into the second round of the Rock Cup.
The first half started with Red Imps taking the lead in the 4th minute, Evan Coleing latched onto a through ball from Cesar Rosa and rifled his shot past Rafael Munoz. Four minutes later Olympique equalised, Kai Soithongsuk’s cross-cum-shot flew over Jaylan Hankins and into the top corner.
Red Imps continued to dominate, Stefan Oliva delivered a corner which found Leigh Adnett, the wingers header hit the post and went out for a goal-kick. Eight minutes later Red Imps regained the lead, Graeme Torrilla’s low cross found Cesar Rosa whose initial shot was blocked, the rebound fell to the striker who drilled his shot past Munoz.
Ten minutes later Olympique had a great chance to equalise but Kai Soithongsuk’s long range shot went inches past Hankin’s post. Just before half-time Red Imps had a chance to extend their lead but Cesar Rosa’s free-kick hit the crossbar from thirty yards out. Red Imps went into the break leading 2-1.
The second half was an evenly contested game, both teams playing well but neither keeper tested until midway through the half when Rafael Munoz produced a magnificent low save to keep out Cesar Rosa’s shot. With the score at 2-1, Olympique went all out attack looking for an equaliser, leaving themselves open for the counter. A clearance from the Red Imps defence saw Graeme Torrilla run through on goal, the midfielder squared the ball to Cesar Rosa whose shot was saved by Munoz.
With seven minutes remaining Red Imps sealed the victory with a third goal, Jayce Consigliero’s free-kick hit the wall, sending keeper Rafael Munoz the wrong way. The Imps were able to hold on for the last few remaining minutes and secure the win.
