With the 2016 Gibraltar Rock Cup getting underway today with two games, we’ve racked our brains together to try and predict the outcome of the two games on today.
Leo v Boca Juniors (18:30 kick off)
Boca have struggled in the league this year, and we didn’t expect to find them second bottom in the league halfway through the season. By contrast, Leo have exceeded many people’s expectations, considering they finished last season second bottom. They have slowed down slightly in recent weeks, but third place, only five points off the top with a game in hand is a great return from 11 games.
The cup might give Boca some respite from their league woes, but we fancy that Leo will have more than enough to win this game, and advance to the next round.
FG Predicts: Leo 3 – 0 Boca Juniors
Gib Phoenix v Hound Dogs (20:30 kick off)
Phoenix are one of the many teams who have threatened to challenge at the top this season; they are currently fourth in the league and with a good shout of a top two finish come the end of the season. For them, this is their first game since December 20th, and their next league game isn’t for another two weeks, so the key here might be for them to keep match fitness up and use their squad a bit today.
Hound Dogs have had a fairly quiet season, not threatening the top of the table, but seemingly with enough to avoid finishing bottom either. The cup offers them the chance to build on their 4-2 win against Cannons on Monday, but we feel they will just about end up on the wrong side of defeat here today.
FG Predicts: Gib Phoenix 2 – 1 Hound Dogs
