Thomas Lucena’s brace sees off Olympique

Mons Calpe easily overcame FC Olympique 3-0 in their Second Division game at the Victoria Stadium thanks to Thomas Lucena’s brace.

The first half started with Mons Calpe on the attack, Alex Gonzalez latched onto a Thomas Lucena through ball and smashed his effort just wide. Olympique replied instantly, Israel Castillo’s shot went inches past Jimenez’s goal. 33 minutes in and Mons Calpe broke the deadlock, Lucena skipped past his marker and smashed his shot past Wood.

Mons Calpe were able to hold on for the remaining few minutes and go into half-time with a 1-0 lead. The second half started with Mons Calpe dominating, Fran Marquez played a delightful through ball to Alex Gonzalez, the striker’s shot was saved by Wood and the rebound was smashed over the bar by Rafael Flores.

Mons Calpe made it 2-0 on the hour mark, Lucena latched onto through ball and slotted his shot into the top corner. Less than ten minutes later Mons Calpe were awarded a penalty as Jorgen Haveland brought down Thomas Lucena in the box, Rafael Flores stepped up and drilled in his penalty into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

Mons Calpe nearly made it 4-0 in added time but Olympique keeper Boyd Wood produced an excellent save to keep out Rafael Flores overhead kick. Mons were able to hold on and walk away with the three points. This victory sees Mons Calpe remain fourth and move one point behind Gib Phoenix while Olympique sit sixth.
